"Remembering You"

You come rather suddenly sometimes

Wake me up from the white noise

We set about yet again

To dust the fairy cobwebs

Of reminiscence

Or to shake off the bit

Of rust

That gathers every time

We don’t talk.

With rust hued fingertips

We explore each others’

Sensibilities

Taking about

Unwritten letters,

Journals, stowed neatly away

In a childhood drawer,

Sycophants, we call friends,

Untrodden dreams

That we sometimes let out

Of our gift boxes.

I don’t know what to call you

In moments such as these,

There are no apt metaphors

I can conjure

To articulate the workings

Of my mind,

I don’t know if it

Starts or stops thinking

When you are absent entirely.

All I can think is,

Peels of sunny laughter,

Like a sudden, confused shower,

Amidst a heat-soaked day.

That doesn’t know what to do

With its sudden bounty

Of kindness.

You leave me in bliss,

In a deluded hope of something

I have been meaning

To ask

Since the first time

I called you my own.

A kinship of mind,

A sorcery of the soul,

That bewitches me

Only when you’re gone.
